Engineered high-density materials designed for extreme environmental loading and high salinity conditions.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) represents one of the most dynamic infrastructure environments globally. From the massive expansions under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to the strategic connectivity projects of Etihad Rail and the industrial expansions at Jebel Ali and Khalifa Ports, the scale of engineering is unprecedented. However, executing complex civil engineering in the Arabian Peninsula brings intense natural challenges.
The region's geomorphology is characterized by hyper-arid desert terrain, highly corrosive sabkha soils (saline dry lakebeds with shallow water tables), and seasonal flash floods that exert immense hydrostatic pressure on retaining and subterranean structures. In these environments, traditional sand and gravel drainage layers are prone to saline crystallization, chemical breakdown, and structural clogging.
Shandong Hongyue's advanced HDPE geonets act as high-transmissivity flow channels, replacing heavy aggregate layers. By using high-density polyethylene with specific molecular weight distributions, our geonets resist soil consolidation pressures and chemical attack from hypersaline groundwater. This ensures uninterrupted fluid drainage and gas evacuation, securing the structural integrity of foundations, highway subgrades, and waste containment facilities across the Gulf region.
Unlike bi-planar geonets, which can deform under high overburden pressures, Shandong Hongyue’s three-dimensional composite geonets feature a structured tri-planar profile. This design incorporates thick vertical structural ribs that support compressive loads, flanked by diagonal drainage ribs that prevent the overlying geotextile from intruding into the drainage channel.
The hydraulic transmissivity is measured under normal loads ranging from 20 kPa to over 1000 kPa in accordance with ASTM D4716. This property is crucial for deep engineering foundations, such as municipal landfills in Abu Dhabi or waste rock dumps in heavy mining industries.
| Physical & Hydraulic Properties | Test Method | Bi-Planar Geonet Series | 3D Tri-Planar Geonet Series |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polymer Density (g/cm³) | ASTM D1505 | ≥ 0.940 (Virgin Resin) | ≥ 0.950 (Virgin High-Density) | Carbon Black Content (%) | ASTM D1603 | 2.0 - 3.0 | 2.5 - 3.0 |
| Tensile Strength (kN/m) | ASTM D5035 / D7179 | 15 - 28 | 30 - 45 (Reinforced Core) |
| Transmissivity (m²/s) @ i=0.1, 200kPa | ASTM D4716 | 3.0 x 10⁻⁴ | ≥ 1.2 x 10⁻³ |
| Compressive Strength (kPa) | ASTM D6244 | 300 - 500 | ≥ 800 - 1200 |
By stabilizing the chemical structure against environmental stress cracking (ESCR) using HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) and specialized anti-oxidants, our factory ensures these geonets retain over 85% of their original mechanical capacity even when exposed to intense UV exposure typical of the Gulf summer months before cover.

Shandong Hongyue works closely with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) companies and municipal planning offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Our products provide high-efficiency engineering solutions across several macro-industries:
Modern sanitary landfills require double liner containment systems to protect groundwater resources. Traditional drainage layers use gravel, which reduces landfill capacity and is prone to biogeochemical clogging. The integration of Hongyue 3D composite drainage networks offers equivalent hydraulic performance to a 30cm gravel layer while increasing the active landfill capacity. In the extreme temperatures of the UAE, this drainage layer accelerates leachate removal, lowering the hydrostatic head acting on the underlying geomembrane barrier.
With the development of the UAE national railway system (Etihad Rail), ballast stabilization is critical. During periods of heavy, localized rainfall, sub-ballast layers can become saturated, leading to track settlement and loss of shear strength. By deploying composite drainage boards and geotextiles, engineers can rapidly redirect pore-water away from the structural subgrade, preventing soil erosion and ballast fouling.
Mining operations, particularly heap leaching for gold or copper ore processing, involve highly acidic or alkaline chemicals. Shandong Hongyue's chemical-resistant HDPE geonets are formulated to handle corrosive pregnant leach solution (PLS) collection under extreme compressive loads, ensuring efficient liquid recovery while maintaining environmental safety barriers.
Continuous investment in high-precision extruders, quality control sensors, and automated processing lines.

By maintaining vertical integration across our product lines, Shandong Hongyue ensures that every system component—whether it is the primary HDPE geomembrane barrier, the backing nonwoven geotextile protection layer, or the middle tri-planar geonet drainage core—is fully compatible. This centralized control prevents delamination and optimizes chemical and mechanical interface friction angles, which is critical for slope stability calculations.
Excellence in geotechnical engineering starts with highly controlled production. Modern manufacturing processes at Shandong Hongyue utilize high-tech extruder heads and thermal curing channels to ensure consistent properties throughout every roll.
Selection of high molecular weight HDPE, polypropylene filament, or polyester chips. Materials are tested for Melt Flow Index (MFI) and density before extrusion.
Raw materials are melted at high temperatures using continuous screw extruders. Additives like carbon black and UV stabilizers are distributed evenly in the melt.
The molten polymer is extruded through custom dies to form structural ribs. These are cross-layered at set angles on a conveyor, creating a continuous interlocking net structure.
The structured net undergoes controlled cooling and stretching to orient the polymer chains, significantly boosting the material's mechanical and compressive strength.
Cured materials are trimmed to width and rolled. Roll length and weight are monitored to verify compliance with specification limits.
Roll samples are sent to our laboratory for testing, including tensile strength, carbon black dispersion, and transmissivity. Only certified rolls are released for shipping.

The effectiveness of a geosynthetic system depends heavily on proper field installation. Harsh desert conditions require careful handling to prevent wind damage, seam misalignment, and structural punctures.
In environments with high daily temperature swings, thermal expansion and contraction must be accounted for. When laying HDPE geomembranes and composite geonets, allow for adequate material slack to prevent tensile stress concentrations at structural anchor trenches.
Our technical support team recommends using plastic wedge welding systems for geomembrane liners, combined with continuous quality control checks (e.g., air pressure tests for dual-track welds, vacuum box testing for details) to confirm water-tight containment.

Shandong Hongyue operates a strict, ISO-certified quality assurance program. Every batch of geonets, geomembranes, and geogrids undergoes continuous testing from raw material input to final roll packaging.
All finished products undergo testing at the China National Testing Center to verify performance against international standards. Our materials routinely meet or exceed ASTM, ISO, and GRI specifications.
To support projects in the UAE, our documentation package includes certified raw material datasheets, batch test reports (MFI, carbon black, density, thickness), and direct project reference lists. We maintain a technical advisory group to help EPC engineering teams optimize geonet specifications, minimize overlap scrap, and ensure smooth municipal approvals (e.g., Dubai Municipality and Abu Dhabi Municipality approvals).

Securing regional water supplies is a key focus for UAE infrastructure planners. With limited freshwater resources and high evaporative loss, lining agricultural canals, desalination brine ponds, and municipal reservoirs is essential.
Implementing geomembranes alongside high-flow geonets provides structural protection against localized soil shifting and uplift pressures.
In sub-grade applications near coastal areas, high tide cycles can push water levels above the liner layer, generating upward hydrostatic pressure. Our 3D drainage nets are designed to relieve this pressure, redirecting groundwater away from the liner to prevent ballast shifting and liner deformation.
